In addition to performing 3 act plays and
pantomimes, the Duston Players like to socialize and take part in other local events
together.
During the summer of 2006 the players have been
involved in a number of social events
including the 60th
Anniversary Celebration, and some of the group were involved in productions of other
groups.
We also occasionally go on :
London Theatre Trips
Local Theatre Trips - Royal Theatre, Northampton, Castle Theatre Wellingborough
and Derngate
Theatre, Northampton. (Derngate and the Royal are closed for refurbishment at the
moment)
and trips to see other local drama groups.
Some of these events have been listed below and more details or pictures could follow at a later date.
Events planned or already enjoyed in 2007
May 5th 2007 - The players may have a stall at the DCA table top Sale helping to raise funds for the Players and for the DCA.
June 23rd 2007 - Players may host a stall at Errington Park for 'Duston Day', as we did last year, hopefully attacting new members or audiences for future productions.
July 19th 2007 - Duston Players AGM - when we decide what to do next year.
Events planned or already enjoyed in 2006:
December 2006 - To relax after the pantomime, the players will be 'cooking the goose' at the Christmas party, Friday 15th December at West End B.C. Players should be advising the committee of their intention to attend.
August 29th and 31st - The Auditions for the 2006 Pantomime.
Thursday July 20th - Duston Players AGM, when productions and producers for next season were decided.
Saturday July 8th - A 60th Anniversary celebration with the players providing their own entertainment.
Monday May 1st - A Country walk followed by a visit to a local pub.
Wednesday 25th January 2006 - A group of the players went to Playhouse Theatre, Northampton to see 'The Dresser' in which one of our members, Lynne O'sullivan has a part. We all enjoyed the play.

Four members of Duston Players, Robert Harnett-Williams, Tracey Mitchenor, Trevor Smith
and Bernie Wood were in these plays.
Saturday 2nd December 2005 - a couple of players went to see 'Exorcism' at the Playhouse on Clare Street.
Wed 7th - Sat 10th Dec & Wed 14th - Sat 17th Dec 2005 - The Wizard of Oz at Spinney Hill theatre.

Sunday 18th December 2005 - Carol Service, St Francis Church, 6pm. (with mince pies and mulled wine afterwards at Roger and Dorothy's Home. )
Sunday 11th December 2005 - A few of the players blew away the hangovers from the party by going for a country walk round Sywell Country Park.
Saturday 10th December 2005 - Duston Players Xmas Party. (more pics to follow)

8th December 2005 - Auditions for Blood Money - Completed as planned, the play is now cast and rehearsals are about to start.
Friday 2nd December 2005 - Robin Hood Video Night (Robin Hood was the 2004 Panto) at Swift House, Duston, 7pm (doors locked 7:30pm - no late arrivals permitted)
August 2005 - Some of the players went to Chirk Castle for a weekend that included watching a professional Outdoor production of The Taming of the Shrew by the Chapterhouse Theatre Group. To see pictures from the weekend click here.
July 2005 - Some of the group went to Drury Lane Theatre in London to see Trevors daughter, Alicia, and DP member Lucy, who are members of 'Theatretrain' on stage, performing "Licence to thrill", a tribute to James Bond, on Sunday 17th July.
Important date this month for members of the Group is the AGM on July 21st, where we get to decide what happens next season.
June 2005 - Some of the players went to see the
Irthlingborough Players performing 'Allo 'Allo, on June 11th, and were watching or
performing in a 'TheseGuyz' production this month.
We also had a first read through of the Blackadder Script, and celebrated Birthdays with Trevor (at the
Squirrels) Dave (a picnic at Pitsford) and Lynn. (at the Britannia Inn)
May 2005 - A Food and Wine evening at Sainsburies and another two Birthday parties at least. (Karens xxth, kindly hosted by John and Jo & Glynis's xxxth)
May 2005 - The players are off for a 7 mile walk round Pitsford Reservoir
followed by a Picnic. The weather was kind and the rain did not start til the picnic was over.
April 2005 - The play which we've been reheasing for, followed by the usual after play show and party.
March 2005 - Most of the players are present for Emily's 21st Birthday Party.
Feb 2005 - The players join Kate to celebrate her birthday at the Blackbottom club. Also a house warming for Will and Beckie.

production followed by the auditions and casting.

The wedding of George and Sheena took place on Sept 24th.
The second audition for the Panto took place on September 2nd at 7:30pm at the community centre.
There was a stag night for George to prepare him for his forthcoming wedding.
August 2004
A car rally was held on Sunday 22nd August. Kate, her boys and Bernie were the winners, closely followed by Joe, Heather and Emily.
The first of two auditions for the Panto took place on August 31st at 7:30pm at the community centre
Debbie had a birthday barbecue with nice sunny
weather again.
July 2004
A number of the players went on a trip to see an outdoor performance of 'As you like it' by Chapterhouse Theatre Company at the National Trust Property, Chirk Castle (where an ex member of the group now lives). Click here to see the weekend in pictures
July 7th - A food and Wine evening at Sainsburies, Duston Store- Sainsburies put on an Italian theme for the night, that seemed to go down well with the participants.

There is always a little gathering after the last performance of a play, when members of the society provide additional entertainment for each other and their friends. On this occasion the 'Bouncers' from the play decided to do another turn.

Winter Walk in the countryside- This was a very wet walk but was followed by a very nice meal at the home of one of the players.

1st December was spent finishing off the construction of the sets for the Pantomime 'Cinderella'.

Sundays 17th, 24th was spent constructing sets for the Pantomime 'Cinderella'.

Rehearsals every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, that means we are free on Friday to enter two teams in a local quiz and on Saturday to see our Pantomime Musicians, Sugardaddy, at the Cock Hotel, We obviously like each other.
- Oh, and one of the two teams we entered in the Duston Community Centre Quiz walked off with first prize! Well done team.
August 2002 - Barbecue & Video evening
First we had a barbecue to celebrate
birthdays of two of the players
then they sat back to watch the
video of one of the recent plays.
July 2002 - Some of the players went to see the Masque Theatre
performing "The Taming of the Shrew" by Shakespeare in an outdoor arena.

May 2002 - Some of the players went to Chirk Castle (on the Welsh
Border) to a Medieval Night Organised by Ex-member Caroline and her husband.

Duston Players won the Inter-drama Group quiz hosted by The Masque.
Congratulations to John Myhill, Bob Harnett-Williams and Richard and Lynne Varley on a
superb team effort. This now means we have to host the next one later this year, John and
Richard are already thinking up fun and fiendish questions!
